Former Presidents of the University of Duhok

The story of the University of Duhok (UoD) is deeply intertwined with the resilience and aspirations of the Kurdish people. Established in 1992, during a time of profound transition and recovery, UoD emerged as a shining example of hope and a cornerstone of development for the region. The vision and dedication of its leaders have been instrumental in shaping the university into a dynamic hub of education, research, and community service.

With just two colleges—Medicine and Agriculture—and a cohort of over 200 students, UoD embarked on its mission to shape the academic and professional landscape of the region. This foundational vision has been carried forward by a series of remarkable leaders, each of whom contributed uniquely to the university’s growth and evolution.

Today, UoD is the third-largest public university in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, but its growth and success would not have been possible without the transformative leadership of its former presidents. This page honors the Former Presidents of UoD, the pioneers who steered the university through its formative years and beyond, ensuring its steady growth and regional prominence.

A University Born in Resilience

Following the Gulf War of 1991, the Kurdistan Region faced remarkable challenges. Over a million Kurdish refugees fled their homes, seeking refuge in the mountains and across international borders. The establishment of safe havens by coalition forces offered some relief, allowing communities to gradually return and rebuild their lives.

Amid this backdrop of hope and determination, a group of visionaries set out to create an institution of higher Education in the city of Duhok. Their ambition was to equip future generations with the knowledge and skills to rebuild their communities and drive progress in the region. Thus, the University of Duhok was born, with its leaders embodying this pioneering spirit.
