The Language Center was established in 2018 at the University of Duhok with the aim of supporting postgraduate study applicants in developing the English language proficiency required for their academic pursuits. The Center provides language education and support to learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds and different levels of language proficiency.

The Mission of the Language Center
The primary mission of the Language Center is to provide comprehensive language education and support to learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds and different levels of proficiency.
The Center particularly supports students and candidates pursuing higher academic degrees, including Master’s and Ph.D. studies, who may face challenges in achieving the English language proficiency required for their academic progression. The Center assists candidates in developing the language skills necessary to meet the proficiency requirements associated with postgraduate study and internationally recognized English language examinations, including TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE.
To fulfill this mission, the Center provides English Language Proficiency courses designed to help participants achieve the level of competence required by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Successful completion of these courses provides participants with the language skills needed for academic and professional success and, according to the Center’s current framework, exemption from the requirement to take internationally recognized English language tests.
The Center is also committed to expanding opportunities for language learning and proficiency in other languages, including Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and other languages as appropriate.

Objectives
The Language Center aims to:
- Support learners in developing the English language proficiency required for postgraduate academic study.
- Provide structured English Language Proficiency courses for learners at different levels.
- Help candidates achieve the language proficiency levels required by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

English Language Programs
English Language Proficiency Courses
The Language Center provides structured English Language Proficiency courses designed to help learners develop the level of English required for their academic and professional pursuits.
The current Learning Courses are based on a curriculum provided by Imperial English UK and are organized into four levels. Each level is designed to develop learners’ language proficiency progressively and prepare them for advancement to the next stage of learning.
Each level consists of 100 hours of instruction, followed by a computer-based final assessment conducted through the Imperial English UK learning program. Learners must successfully pass the final assessment and maintain an attendance rate of at least 90% in order to progress to the next level.
Course Levels
Level 1 — Beginner (A1)
The Beginner level introduces learners to the foundations of English and develops basic language knowledge and communication skills.
Level 2 — Elementary (A2)
The Elementary level builds upon basic knowledge and develops learners’ ability to use English in increasingly varied contexts.
Level 3 — Intermediate (B1)
The Intermediate level develops learners’ ability to communicate more independently and supports the development of language skills needed for academic and everyday communication.
Level 4 — Advanced (B2)
The Advanced level further develops learners’ English proficiency and prepares them for more demanding academic and professional communication.
