The Pedagogical Training Course is designed to introduce higher education teachers to advanced pedagogical methods and contemporary approaches to teaching and learning. The course aims to prepare new academic staff to become competent, active, and effective educators by equipping them with essential skills in pedagogy, scientific research, educational technology, leadership, and academic management.

The course runs for six months and consists of several integrated modules that combine theoretical knowledge with practical application. Upon successful completion, participants are awarded a recognized Pedagogy Certificate (30 ECTS) credits. The certificate is signed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the President of the University of Duhok, and the Director of the Center. This certificate is also required by the University as one of the conditions for granting academic titles.

Since its establishment in 2019, the Center has organized 27 rounds of the Pedagogical Training Courses, with six additional courses currently ongoing. These courses reflect the Center’s continued commitment to strengthening teaching quality, enhancing academic performance, and supporting the professional development of university teaching staff.

The course is structured around the following core modules:

• Edupreneurship and University–Work Environment Cooperation

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) module focuses on digital learning platforms, Google applications, online learning tools, reference management systems, academic profiles, and interactive digital tools such as presentation, communication, and assessment platforms. Participants are also provided with opportunities to practice using these tools and deliver group presentations.

The Research and Development (R&D) module introduces participants to the foundations of scientific research, including research definitions, types and classifications, research methodology, research processes, data collection and analysis, academic integrity, research ethics, scientific writing, publication procedures, and research orientation.

The Student-Centered Learning (SCL) module emphasizes the philosophy, principles, and practical application of learner-centered education. It addresses the importance of active learning, twenty-first-century educational skills, learning theories, the psychology of teaching and learning, and strategies for responding to potential challenges and student resistance to student-centered approaches.

The Innovative Pedagogical Approaches (IPA) module introduces modern teaching methods, classroom strategies, group development theories, student engagement techniques, educational technology integration, and assessment practices. It also explores key questions related to assessment, types of learning assessment, and appropriate tools and methods for evaluating student learning.

The Competence-Based Education (CBE) module focuses on competence-based education, the Bologna Process, and competency-based curriculum design. It covers curriculum structure, learning outcomes, mapping of learning outcomes, supporting educational structures, learning methods, learning environments, and challenges related to implementation in the Kurdistan Region.

The Edupreneurship and University–Work Environment module introduces participants to edupreneurship, change processes in education, work-based learning, market-oriented education, entrepreneurial leadership, presentation skills, career guidance and counselling, university–work environment cooperation, and practical planning tools such as the NABC Canvas.

Through these comprehensive modules, the Pedagogical Training Course supports the development of skilled, innovative, and reflective academic staff who are prepared to contribute effectively to higher education and respond to the changing needs of universities, students, and the professional environment.
