About the Language Center

The Language Center was established in 2018 at the University of Duhok with the aim of supporting postgraduate study applicants in developing the English language proficiency required for their academic pursuits. The Center provides language education and support to learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds and different levels of language proficiency.

The Center plays an important role in helping students and candidates overcome language-related barriers to academic advancement. In particular, it supports postgraduate applicants, including those pursuing Master’s and Ph.D. degrees, who may face challenges in achieving the required levels of English proficiency in internationally recognized language examinations such as TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE.

To support learners in achieving the required level of proficiency, the Center offers English Language Proficiency courses based on a structured curriculum. The current Learning Courses are based on a curriculum provided by Imperial English UK and consist of four levels of English language instruction.

The Center is part of a wider network of Language Centers operating within government universities across the Kurdistan Region. These centers are supervised and directed by a higher committee under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Erbil.

In addition to English language education, the Center is developing opportunities for learners to study and improve their proficiency in other languages, including Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, and Turkish.

Through its educational programs and learner support, the Language Center seeks to provide an inclusive and dynamic learning environment in which individuals can strengthen their language skills and use them to advance their academic and professional goals.
