Vice President of the Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany Visits the UOD

In the context of strengthening academic and humanitarian relations between the Kurdistan Region and Germany, today, February 3, 2026, the Institute for Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology (IPP) at the University of Duhok welcomed the Honorable Ms. Berivan Aymaz, Vice President of the Parliament of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. She was received by Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, President of the University of Duhok; Prof. Dr. Jan Ilhan Kizilhan, Dean of the IPP; Dr. Buhar Issa, Assistant Dean of the Institute; and the institute's staff.

In a meeting, Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, the University President, expressed his delight with the visit, noting that the continuous support from the German government and parliament has been the reason for the success of this project, which the university views as a highly important initiative providing extensive services. He added that the institute was established as a scientific and humanitarian response to the catastrophes that followed the rise of ISIS.

For her part, the Honorable Ms. Berivan Aymaz expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and highly praised the institute's role. She reaffirmed that their region will continue to advance cooperation and support for humanitarian, scientific, and environmental projects.

It is worth noting that Ms. Berivan Aymaz is a Kurdish politician from Germany's Green Party and the Vice President of the Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia. Ms. Aymaz was born in the city of Çewlîg in North Kurdistan and has lived in Germany since childhood. She is known as an active voice advocating for the rights of Kurds, minorities, and the environment. Ms. Aymaz holds a strong belief in the role of youth in political life and consistently encourages Kurdish youth to participate in political and civic activities.
