On September 10, 2024, the University of Duhok marked World Suicide Prevention Day with an event titled "Let's Change the Story of Suicide – Start the Conversation." Held at the Institute of Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology (IPP), the event was organized in collaboration with the General Directorate of Health of Duhok Province and the Lotus Flower Organization.

The event was attended by a significant number of government officials, party representatives, and academic professionals. Dr. Buhar Issa, Vice-Dean of IPP, delivered a speech highlighting the institute's contributions and its psychological projects' impact on the community. Dr. Nawzad Sami, representing the General Directorate of Health, discussed the Directorate's ongoing efforts in suicide prevention within Duhok Province. Ms. Vian Ahmed, Director of the Lotus Flower Organization, spoke about the organization's initiatives and achievements in combating suicide.

The IPP's Helagarm team conducted a seminar on suicide, detailing the understanding, prevalence, and prevention of the phenomenon. They also highlighted the work of the Helagarm Suicide Prevention Project, an international initiative established in 2021 with support from the German government to address suicide issues in Duhok Province.

Dr. Buhar Issa concluded the event by thanking the participants and acknowledging the successful organization of the day's activities.
