TRANSITION Project: UOD Concludes Student Training Activities on Minority Heritage Preservation with a Cultural Event

The Department of Archaeology, College of Humanities, University of Duhok concluded the student training activities organized under the TRANSITION Project on May 17, 2026, with a special cultural event dedicated to the traditional clothing and heritage cuisine of minority communities. The initiative forms part of the University of Duhok’s broader commitment to preserving cultural diversity and safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.

The event was attended by:

  • Dr. Saeed Khudeida Alo, Dean of the College of Humanities
  • Dr. Bayar Safar Chicho, Head of the PDK Chira Committee
  • Faculty members and lecturers from various departments
  • Students participating in the TRANSITION training activities
  • Several trainers and experts who contributed ideas and recommendations related to the TRANSITION Project

The event showcased elements of minority heritage through traditional attire, cultural practices, and heritage foods, providing students with an interactive educational experience focused on the importance of preserving intangible cultural heritage and strengthening cultural identity.

The activities aimed to encourage students to actively engage in documenting and protecting the heritage of minority communities, particularly non-material cultural heritage, which plays a vital role in preserving historical memory, cultural identity, and intergenerational knowledge transfer.

The concluding event reflects the goals of the TRANSITION Project, funded in cooperation with the European Union, which seeks to enhance awareness, academic training, and institutional capacity in the field of minority heritage preservation in the Kurdistan Region and Yemen.

Through such initiatives, the University of Duhok continues to reinforce its strategic role in promoting cultural sustainability, intercultural dialogue, and community-oriented education.
