University of Duhok Represents Iraq at the 13th IBA International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition in The Hague

In a significant achievement that reflects the University of Duhok’s growing international academic presence, a team from the College of Law participated in the 13th International Bar Association (IBA) International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition, held in The Hague, Netherlands, from 12–19 June 2026. The competition is organized by the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University in partnership with the International Bar Association (IBA) and supported by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Representing UOD on an International Legal Platform

The University of Duhok delegation consisted of law students and academic coaches who represented the university in one of the world's most prestigious international law competitions. The event brings together outstanding law students from universities across the globe to simulate proceedings before the International Criminal Court and develop advanced advocacy, legal research, and courtroom skills.

The University of Duhok delegation included Dr. Aveen Khalid Abdulrahman, Dean of the College of Law, Dr. Hishyar Jangeer Agid, Dr. Ary Arif Abdulaziz, and Amar Jasim Ahmed, who accompanied and coached the participating students, Mardan Abdulrazaq Ali and Shanaz Shaban Mohammed, during the competition held in The Hague. The team represented the College of Law and the University of Duhok in a prestigious international forum dedicated to international criminal law and legal advocacy.

Enhancing Legal Education and International Exposure

The competition provides participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of international criminal law and international justice mechanisms while engaging with legal experts, academics, and students from different countries. Participants also gain direct exposure to leading international institutions based in The Hague, including the International Criminal Court and other global legal organizations.

Supporting UOD’s Strategic Vision

The participation aligns with the University of Duhok Strategic Plan (2023–2038), particularly its priorities of internationalization, student excellence, global engagement, and experiential learning. Through involvement in international academic competitions, UOD continues to provide students with opportunities to develop professional competencies, strengthen intercultural understanding, and engage with contemporary global legal challenges.
