University of Duhok Commemorates International Day of Genocide Prevention by Hosting a Scientific Symposium

The Center for Genocide Studies at the University of Duhok organized a special session titled "Genocide Prevention: Social, Legal, and Political Dimensions" to observe the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime.
At the beginning of the event, which was attended by various university Council members, faculty members, genocide experts, and high-leve guests, the opening remarks on behalf of the Center for Genocide Studies were delivered by Dr. Edrees Musa Mohammed.
Subsequently, the sessions commenced under the moderation of Mr. Omed Mohammed Tahir Miqdad, featuring three main themes presented by experts:
- First Theme: Presented by Dr. Sumaya Saeed Khalid, who discussed coexistence and genocide prevention from a social perspective.
- Second Theme: Presented by Dr. Alan Jamal Mohammed, focusing on transitional justice and the legal aspects of preventing genocide.
- Third Theme: Presented by Dr. Salim Jasim Haji, who addressed political systems and the political dimensions of genocide prevention.
The event concluded with an open Q&A session, where attendees directed their questions and suggestions to the panelists.
