ILO rewards Students of Architecture Engineering for Innovative Environmental Project

In a unique partnership between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the local Environment in Duhok with academia of the UOD, a groundbreaking environmental project is underway in Duhok-Malta. Led by Dr. James Haido, the Dean of the College of Engineering and supervised by Architectural Lecturer Mr. Aram Omar, students have played a central role in the project's design and planning.

Located along the Barzan highway on a 50,000 square meter site with abundant greenery and essential amenities like a 200-car parking lot and three water wells, the project emphasizes sustainability and community development. The students have shown a great role in this planting project of the determined area.

After a spirited competition among 4 groups including 12 students, a team of 5 fifth-stage architecture students, consisted of Rozhan, Hiba, Payman, Enas, and Siber emerged victorious, impressing with their innovative design. The actual start of this project goes back to the mid-January, 2024, and it’s currently ongoing. On Monday, May 20,2024, the ILO has recognized and rewarded their contribution for this project in the presence of the College Dean, the Head of the Architectural Department and the supervisor lecturer, a representative and project manager at ILO, Mr. Bashar Samarneh, and a representative from the Environment Department in Duhok, Mr. Hasan Bamarny.

With 50% of the work completed, anticipation is high for the project's completion, showcasing the power of collaboration between academia, industry, and international organizations in driving positive change.
