Conclusion of the Summer Training Program for graduating Students at CVTM

UOD, September 17, 2025 | University Press Office (UNPO) |The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVTM) at the University of Duhok (UOD) has successfully concluded its Summer Training Program (July 1 – August 31, 2025) for graduating students. Designed to provide hands-on, real-world experience, the program equipped students with critical clinical, surgical, and diagnostic skills, aligning with UOD’s mission to prepare graduates for professional excellence and community service.

Hands-On Clinical Practice

A total of sixty-nine students, divided into four groups, actively engaged in handling various cases. They demonstrated a thorough scientific approach, applying the knowledge gained during their studies. Their responsibilities included taking medical histories, conducting clinical examinations, collecting laboratory samples, making diagnoses, and even performing surgical procedures when necessary.

Field Visits for Applied Learning

The training also featured key field visits to significant sites both within and outside the governorate, including:

  • Sulav Slaughterhouse for broiler chickens in Bastki, on the Zakho road.

  • Safa Factory for animal feed production in Kashi, on the Zakho road.

  • Farms for raising cows, sheep, chickens, and some rare birds in the Amadiya district.

  • Rami Farm in the Barzan area of Erbil Governorate.

Academic Supervision and Guidance

Twenty professors from various departments—including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics, Clinical Pathology, and Poultry—participated in the training. The program was overseen by the Dean of the College, Dr. Mohammed Shukri Shukr, with direct supervision from the Head of the Clinical Unit, Dr. Aseel Anwar Al-Naqshbandi.

A Comprehensive Veterinary Curriculum

The training curriculum included a wide array of topics, such as:

Students benefited from a wide-ranging veterinary curriculum, covering:

  • Internal & Preventative Medicine – diagnostics and treatment of farm animals.

  • Reproductive Medicine – pregnancy diagnosis, fertility management, embryo transfer, and hormonal therapies.

  • Surgery & Anesthesiology – castration, ovariohysterectomy, rumenotomy, anesthesia in domestic and wild animals.

  • Laboratory & Diagnostic Methods – parasitology, biosafety, zoonotic disease detection, and ultrasound imaging.

  • Animal Production & Biotechnology – semen freezing, artificial insemination, and reproductive biotechnologies.

This comprehensive training reinforced UOD’s position as a leading institution in veterinary education and applied sciences in the Kurdistan Region.

Final Evaluation and Student Readiness

In the final week, students underwent a rigorous examination under the supervision of their professors. They showed exceptional dedication and skill in handling the challenges, demonstrating their readiness for their professional careers. The experience they gained from interacting with cases and employers will undoubtedly form a strong foundation for their future professional aspirations.
