UOD | August 9, 2026, University Press Office (UNPO) – The University of Duhok continues to strengthen its international academic engagement and promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise in areas of strategic importance to sustainable development. As part of these efforts, two academics from the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences participated in a specialized international training program in the People's Republic of China, focusing on dryland agriculture, water-saving irrigation, and sustainable resource management.

Dr. Zeravan Ariff Abdullah and Dr. Rezgar Idress Saad, from the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences (CAES) at the University of Duhok, participated in a specialized international training course held in Yangling Modern Agriculture International Cooperation Co.,Ltd, Xi’an, Yangling, Shaanxi Province, the People's Republic of China. The program, titled "Dryland Agriculture and Water-Saving Irrigation in Developing Countries," brought together agricultural professionals and researchers from several developing nations to exchange expertise and explore innovative agricultural solutions.

Training in Water-Saving Irrigation and Precision Agriculture

The training, which was held on July 2-20, 2026, focused on equipping participants with advanced practical skills and theoretical knowledge in precision agriculture, water-saving irrigation technologies, and the sustainable management of soil and water resources. The UOD delegation had the opportunity to study China’s leading models and successful experiences in dryland farming, which are designed to maximize efficiency in arid and semi-arid environments.

Strengthening International Academic and Research Cooperation

In addition to the technical curriculum, the program served as a significant platform for international academic and research cooperation. The UOD representatives engaged with global experts to discuss scientific developments and explore collaborative approaches to sustainable resource management.

Knowledge Transfer and Future Impact

The knowledge and expertise acquired during this training are expected to significantly enhance the University’s teaching methodologies and scientific research output. Furthermore, the delegation’s experience will support the development of modern irrigation practices and sustainable agricultural systems in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, providing critical strategies to improve water-use efficiency and address the pressing challenges of water scarcity and climate change.
