On December 3, 2024, the University of Duhok, in cooperation with New York University and funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), hosted a three-day workshop titled "Developing a Learning Network for Peace Studies in Iraq" at its Cultural and Social Center Hall. The primary goal of the workshop was to review and assess the current curricula in peace studies within Iraqi universities’ higher diploma programs. One of the key outcomes aimed for was the development of a unified curriculum that could be adopted across various institutions in Iraq.

The workshop also sought to establish a collaborative network for peace studies, connecting the participating universities and laying the groundwork for future cooperation in research, teaching, and program development related to peace studies. Universities of Duhok, Mosul, Anbar, and New York took part in the event, which followed a series of online meetings with additional universities, including those of Baghdad, Fallujah, Qadisiyah, and Thi-Qar. This initiative is expected to promote a unified approach to peace education in Iraq and strengthen regional academic partnerships.
