University of Duhok Organizes Special Online Training for Mental Health Specialists in Syria
In response to the devastating earthquake that struck on February 6, 2023, the University of Duhok's Institute of Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology, in collaboration with the Institute of Transcultural and Health Sciences at DHBW University, organized an online training program from October 13 to 17, 2024. This initiative aims to support mental health professionals working in the earthquake-affected areas of Syria.
The training program seeks to strengthen the mental health network and enhance the capacity of professionals in both regions. It is specifically designed for psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, child development specialists, and other relevant mental health practitioners. Conducted in both English and Arabic, the course covers essential topics, including trauma intervention, emergency psychology, psychosocial care for children, and narrative exposure therapy. Instruction was provided by local lecturers from the Institute of Psychotherapy and Psychotraumatology and clinic staff.
Participants hailed from various fields and regions across Syria, with approximately 40 individuals actively engaging in the training. The program offered unlimited participation, fostering a diverse learning environment.
In summary, this collaborative effort aims to enhance the capabilities of healthcare workers, promoting long-term psychological resilience and trauma care in the affected region.
