On December 4, 2024, the Institutional Research Center at the University of Duhok organized a special panel titled “Building Institutional Effectiveness and Continuous Development” at the university’s Convention Center. The event began with a presentation by Dr. Faiq Diko, Director of the Institutional Research Center, who outlined the directorate’s policies and strategic plans.

The event was attended by the President of the University of Duhok (UoD), Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, along with members of the University Board, faculty from various colleges, administrative staff, and representatives from university centers. Distinguished guests, including Celeste Schenck and Dr. Barbara Brittingham, who are specialists in higher education and members of Board of Trustees at the American University in Kurdistan, were also present. Chaired by Dr. Dawood Atrushi, the panel focused on key topics related to the university’s development and the enhancement of its educational systems.

During the meeting, the President and the guest speakers engaged in discussions on critical issues, such as enhancing academic accreditation, promoting student participation in the educational process, and refining the University of Duhok’s strategic plan. Participants raised several questions, leading to in-depth discussions on how the university could achieve its goals in these areas. Dr. Atrushi emphasized that the primary aim of the panel was to prepare the university community for active participation in the academic accreditation process. He highlighted the importance of positioning the University of Duhok as a competitive institution on the global stage, excelling in research, education, and innovation.

Dr. Schenck congratulated the University of Duhok on its progress in the accreditation process, recognizing it as the first academic institution in Kurdistan to undertake such significant steps. She encouraged the university to serve as a model for other institutions in the region. Additionally, Dr. Schenck stressed the importance of student involvement in the accreditation process, noting that their feedback is essential for improving the quality of education and building confidence in the university’s programs.

Dr. Brittingham praised the university’s strategic plan, describing it as a robust initiative that aligns with the goals of academic accreditation. She highlighted specific elements, such as the expansion of the campus, including more green nature, as key contributors to the university’s success. Dr. Brittingham expressed confidence that the strategic plan would enable the University of Duhok to achieve higher academic standards.

The session created a constructive environment for dialogue on higher education issues, facilitating the exchange of ideas and expertise between the guests and the University of Duhok’s faculty and staff. This collaborative approach enhanced academic understanding and demonstrated the institution’s commitment to continuous improvement.
