Music Course Concluded at the University of Duhok
A specialized music training course, conducted on scientific and academic foundations for piano performance and vocal arts (singing), has successfully concluded.
University lecturer Khattab Artoshi, the course supervisor, stated: "This educational course lasted for two weeks and was presented by the Activities Department at the Students Center in coordination with the Directorate of Quality Assurance. It was open to all students from various scientific departments at the University of Duhok who possess a passion for music and singing. The course offered both theoretical and practical lessons on piano performance, vocal techniques, and the professional use of the voice through scientific methods."
Regarding the curriculum, Artoshi added: "Students were introduced to several key topics, including piano playing techniques, the definition and history of music, proper posture, and finger placement on the keyboard. Participants also learned about musical tones and pitches, dual-hand coordination, and musical notation—the universal language of music. Furthermore, the training covered musical rhythms, tempo, scales (Maqams), and the performance of simple musical pieces."
In terms of vocal training, the supervisor explained: "The course focused on enhancing the students' musical ear and pitch recognition, teaching them how to imitate tones and explore different singing styles. It also addressed correcting performance errors, improving the articulation of lyrics, and expressing emotions through singing. Practical vocal exercises were a core component, ensuring that students learn to sing with both technical accuracy and deep feeling."
The course ran for two consecutive weeks under the supervision of Mr. Khattab Artoshi, a specialist in music sciences at the University of Duhok.
