To commemorate the eighth anniversary of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq's independence referendum in 2017, the Center for Federalism Studies at the University of Duhok held a

The Right of Federal Regions to Self-Determination (Legal and Political Perspectives on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Referendum of September 25, 2017).

This session took place on October 5, 2026, in the Peshmerga Hall at the Student Center, University of Duhok. It was attended by students, university professors, and guests from various political movements and civil society organizations in Duhok.

At the beginning of the session, Dr. Najm Al-Deen M. Yaseen, Director of the Center for Federalism Studies, welcomed the attendees, wishing them a fruitful and beneficial experience with the program.

The session was divided into two parts:

The first part: addressed the political aspect and was presented by Dr. Rengber Jamil Sheikho, a university Lecturer.

The second part: addressed the legal aspect and was presented by Mr. Farhad Al-Atroushi, a university lecturer and former governor of Duhok.

A direct dialogue took place between the attendees and the presenters, covering various aspects of the topic. The attendees' questions and comments were addressed.

The session was moderated by Mr. Sami Abdulqadir Al-Rekani, a lecturer at the University of Duhok.
