American Corner

Workshop About ACD Engineers Club
July 4, 2019, 9:34 a.m.

American Corner-Duhok, hosted the first workshop of its newly implemented program which is called ACD Engineers Club. The lecture was held on the 3rd  of July 2019. The event was presented by ACD volunteers (See “Speaker Section”).

The first session was about using AutoCAD to draw basic engineering shapes. During the first hour of the session, the instructor demonstrated how to use the software and start building shapes, and in the second hour, the participants applied what they learned in the first hour on the computer, while the instructor was going around helping and giving input as need. At the end of the session, homework was assigned, and a date was set for the next session.

The club will also contain sessions that will focus on using other engineering software, which are: Autodesk 3ds Max, Lumion, and Photoshop.

The club will meet twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.

This program is set up to achieve one of the Corner’s goals of promoting STEM programs in the region. The idea for the project came after a discussion with a faculty member from the College of Engineering at UoD, who pointed out that most of the females in engineering classes lack the skills needed to work on essential engineering software, and so the Corner decided to start this club, with a focus on female participants.
