US Consul General Visits the University of Duhok

The Consul General of the United States in Erbil, Steve Bitner, visited the University of Duhok (UOD) today, September 19, 2024, to explore ongoing collaborative efforts and enhance ties between the UOD and various institutions in the United States.

Welcomed by Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, President of the UOD, and other senior university officials, the meeting took place at the American Corner at the University of Duhok. Also present were Andy Halus, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, and Kim Strollo, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil. Representatives from the UOD’s Directorate of International Relations (DOIR) and the Directorate of Media (DOM) participated in the discussions.

The visit focused on reviewing joint projects between the University of Duhok and U.S.-based institutions, with particular attention on initiatives aimed at promoting academic cooperation, research, and cultural exchange. Dr. Atrushi highlighted the University’s role as a regional leader in fostering international collaborations, noting that UOD’s partnership with the United States has significantly contributed to the advancement of higher education in the region.

Dr. Nazar Ameen Mohammed, Director of UOD's Directorate of International Relations (DOIR), provided an update on the successful projects currently underway, while also outlining new areas of potential cooperation in fields such as science, technology, and academic exchange programs.

Consul General Steve Bitner expressed his appreciation for the strong ties between the University of Duhok and U.S. institutions. He emphasized the importance of education and cultural diplomacy in building long-term partnerships, and praised the American Corner at UOD for its active engagement in promoting cross-cultural understanding and academic exchange.

The visit marks another significant step in the University of Duhok’s commitment to expanding its international footprint and strengthening academic ties with institutions around the world.
