Consul General of Turkey Visits University of Duhok to Strengthen Academic and Cultural Ties

On September 18, 2024, the University of Duhok (UoD) had the honor of hosting a distinguished delegation led by the Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Erbil, Mr. Erman Topçu. This historic visit marked the first official appearance of a Turkish Consul at UoD and underscored the shared commitment to strengthening academic collaboration and fostering cultural exchange.

Dr. Dawood Atrushi, President of the University of Duhok, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the longstanding academic relations between the Kurdistan Region and Türkiye. He acknowledged the vital role of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in facilitating partnerships between universities in both regions. Dr. Atrushi noted the steady growth of academic ties with Turkish institutions and expressed the university's eagerness to deepen these connections, benefiting both students and faculty members.

During the visit, Consul General Topçu highlighted the significance of academic and cultural relations as powerful tools for building lasting collaborations. He expressed optimism about expanding partnerships between Turkish and Kurdish universities and promoting greater understanding through educational initiatives. The Consul General also encouraged students from the Kurdistan Region to pursue postgraduate opportunities in Türkiye, pointing out the availability of scholarships provided by Turkish universities.

The meeting also explored future opportunities for joint academic endeavors, including conferences, symposiums, and enhanced collaborative projects between institutions.
