Indian Consul General Visits University of Duhok to Strengthen Academic and Cultural Cooperation

In line with its strategic commitment to internationalization and global academic partnerships, the University of Duhok (UOD) welcomed H.E. Mr. Brijesh Kumar, Consul General of India in Erbil, for an official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Indian Consulate and UOD.

The Consul General was received by Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, President of the University of Duhok, along with Dr. Nazar Ameen Mohammed, Director of IR, and Dr. Bahzad M. Taher Khaled, the Presidency Office Manager. Discussions focused on expanding institutional collaboration through academic exchange, joint activities, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Expanding Academic Collaboration

During the meeting, both sides explored practical mechanisms to enhance cooperation, including:

  • Hosting seminars and scientific symposia at UOD delivered by Indian experts across various disciplines.

  • Providing specialized training courses and workshops in areas such as health sciences, education, political studies, technology, and other academic fields.

  • Facilitating academic mobility opportunities for UOD staff members, including short-term training programs and professional development visits in India.

The discussions emphasized the importance of building sustainable academic bridges that support research development, capacity building, and cross-cultural understanding.

Supporting UOD’s Strategic Vision (2023–2038)

This visit aligns closely with UOD’s Strategic Plan (2023–2038), particularly its pillars of:

  • International academic cooperation

  • Capacity development and academic excellence

  • Global visibility and strategic partnerships

Visit to the Central Library

At the conclusion of the visit, the Consul General toured the University of Duhok Central Library, where he was welcomed by the Central Library Director, Dr. Karwan Jaafar Abdulrahman and the library staff. There, he viewed a collection of books previously donated by the Indian Consulate to the Indian Corner. The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment to promoting knowledge exchange and cultural diplomacy through educational resources.
