About the American Corner
American Corners are cultural and educational hubs created in partnership with the U.S. Embassy and host institutions globally. Found in schools, libraries, and universities, they promote understanding of American culture, values, and education.
These centers offer access to books, digital media, English language resources, and interactive programming. They serve as spaces for dialogue through workshops, film screenings, discussion groups, and educational advising.
American Corners in Iraq
In Iraq, American Corners partner with universities and public libraries to offer:
- American books and academic resources
- English language learning support
- Information on U.S. study opportunities
- Leadership, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement programs
Previously located at the University Central Library, American Corner Duhok has actively engaged students and faculty. Its new location in the Student Center enhances accessibility and outreach.
Aligned with UOD’s Strategic Vision
The relocation and revitalization of the American Corner reflects UOD’s Strategic Planning Initiative, which envisions the university as a regional leader in internationalization, innovation, and sustainability over the next 15 years.
