In a significant achievement that reflects the growing leadership role of the University of Duhok (UOD) in the field of higher education and university sports, Dr. Falah Saadoon Omer, Director of the UOD Sports Directorate, has been elected as a board member of the Iraqi University Sports Federation during the federation’s official elections held in Erbil, on May 1, 2026.

National Representation and Institutional Recognition

The elections brought together representatives from universities across Iraq, highlighting the importance of collaboration and strategic planning in advancing university sports at the national level. Dr. Falah Saadoon Omer secured his position on the federation’s board through a majority vote, reflecting confidence in his leadership experience and UOD’s active contribution to academic sports development.

A total of nine members were elected to the federation’s governing board, including representatives from universities in the Kurdistan Region, specifically from:

• Duhok
• Erbil
• Sulaymaniyah
