Participating among 80 Universities among Iraq, UoD Law Team Advances to Round of 16 in Virtual Moot Court Competition

UoD, October 4, 2026 | University Press Office (UNPO) — The Saif Al-Bayan Team of the College of Law at the University of Duhok (UoD) has achieved a notable academic success by advancing to the Round of 16 in the Virtual Moot Court Competition, among 80 participating teams representing universities from across Iraq.

The team participated in the competition under the patronage of Dr. Aveen Khalid Abdulrahman, Dean of the College of Law, and under the supervision of Dr. Ari Arif Abdulazeez, Director of the Legal Clinic at the College.

The team delivered its first pleading on September 25, 2026, at 9:00 PM, appearing as counsel for the claimant against the University of Thi-Qar Team. Shafnam Shami presented the procedural arguments, while Noor Basim presented the substantive arguments, with Dorahel Hawar participating as a member of the team.

In its second pleading, held on September 26, 2026, the team appeared as counsel for the respondent against the Al-Sanhouriyoon Team of University of Al-Mashriq. The pleadings featured detailed legal discussions and demonstrated the team members’ ability to analyze legal issues and present well-structured arguments in a moot court setting.

The results of the first stage were announced on September 28, 2026, confirming the qualification of the Saif Al-Bayan Team for the Round of 16, placing the team among the top-performing participants in the competition.

This achievement reflects the efforts of the team members and the continued support of the College of Law and its Legal Clinic in developing students’ legal advocacy skills and providing them with practical opportunities to strengthen their academic and professional capabilities.
