UOD Celebrates Graduation of 4th Biomedical Engineering Cohort and Hosts International Symposium

The University of Duhok (UOD) marked a major academic milestone with the graduation of the fourth cohort of 24 Biomedical Engineering students, who proudly received the Joint Double Bachelor’s Degree awarded collaboratively by UOD and the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM), Germany.
The ceremony was held at the UOD Convention Center in the presence of University Council members, faculty, families, and the THM delegation, Dr. Martin Fiebich and Dr. Thomas Schanze, reaffirming UOD’s commitment to international academic partnerships and high-quality engineering education.

Graduation Ceremony Highlights

the ceremony opened with the formal entrance of graduates and faculty, followed by:

  • Welcome remarks and a musical interlude

  • Speeches from the President of UOD presented by the Vice President, Dr. Dilshad Abduljabbar Haleem, the THM representative.

  • A special address by Dr. Yasser Ahmed Fadhel, Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department.

  • Formal granting of degrees asked by the College Dean, Dr. Nashwan Shawkat Mahmood, and granted by Dr. Dilshad on behalf of the University President.
  • Certificate distribution by Dr. Dilshad and the THM Representative and group photography

This joint degree—which features shared modules, joint exams, and joint certification—highlights the depth of UOD–THM cooperation and the expanding opportunities for UOD graduates in the global biomedical engineering sector.

International Symposium on Recent Techniques in Biomedical Engineering

Parallel to the graduation, the 2nd International Symposium on Recent Techniques in Biomedical Engineering was organized, in collaboration with THM.

The session was honored by:

  • Dr. Sabah Wais, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research

Symposium Themes

The symposium featured keynote lectures and scientific presentations covering:

  • The emerging global role of biomedical engineering

  • Applications of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in healthcare

  • Technological innovations in medical engineering

  • A session reviewing the success and management of the UOD–THM double-degree program

A scientific poster exhibition showcased student and faculty research, serving as a platform for knowledge exchange and cross-border academic collaboration.
