UOD, September 26, 2026, University Press Office (UNPO) | The University of Duhok (UOD) commemorated the International Day of Peace on September 21, 2026, highlighting the values of peace, coexistence, tolerance, and social stability. The event was organized by the Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies at UOD, in collaboration with the Governorate of Duhok, and the General Directorate of Culture and Arts in Duhok and Better World Organization, under the patronage of the Governor of Duhok, Dr. Ali Tatar.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, President of the University of Duhok; Dr. Vian Sulaiman, Deputy Head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Organizing Office; Mr. Brindar Haidar, Mayor of Duhok; and a number of government and political officials, religious scholars, university academics, students, and representatives of the local community.

In his speech, the Governor of Duhok highlighted the city’s experience of peaceful coexistence and stability, describing Duhok as an example of coexistence and a city committed to peace. The event also featured a presentation by Mr. Khidir Kalo Ali, a trainer at the Center for Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, highlighting the Center’s work and the University’s role in promoting peace-related knowledge and initiatives.

The programme included a series of documentary, artistic, and musical presentations by different groups, reflecting themes of peace, coexistence, and cultural understanding. These contributions also highlighted the role of education and cultural activities in strengthening a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence in Duhok and the wider community.

The commemoration reflects the University of Duhok’s commitment to peacebuilding, social cohesion, community engagement, and the promotion of a culture of dialogue and coexistence, in line with its broader academic and societal mission.
