President Leads Faculty and Staff on Outdoor Excursion to Encourage Eco-Friendly Culture

As part of its strategic vision to promote sustainability, physical well-being, and environmental engagement, the University of Duhok (UOD) organized a hiking trip to the scenic mountains of Zawita district on Saturday, May 17, 2025. The event brought together faculty, directors, and staff in an initiative that combined recreation with ecological responsibility.

🎒 Leadership Participation and Institutional Support
The hiking trip was led by Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, President of UOD, and organized through a joint effort by the Sports Directorate and the American Corner at the University of Duhok.

Dr. Atrushi commended the organizers for their efforts, emphasizing the importance of such activities in fostering a healthy academic community. He stated:

“We must work to make hiking and outdoor exploration part of our cultural mindset—connecting with nature is not only vital for personal well-being, but also for developing a deeper sense of responsibility toward our environment.”

🌱 Environmental Action: Cleaning Campaign
Following the hike, and upon the request of President Atrushi, university staff and participants conducted a cleaning campaign, collecting litter and raising awareness about protecting natural landscapes in Kurdistan. This aligns with UOD’s broader goals of environmental stewardship and civic engagement.
