President of the University of Duhok and the South Korean Consul Discuss Strategic Cooperation Development
UOD, November 24, University Press Office | Today, as part of strengthening international academic relations, Dr. Dawood Sleman Atrushi, President of the University of Duhok, received Mr. Seungcheol LIM, Consul General of the Republic of South Korea in Erbil. During their meeting, emphasis was placed on cooperation in advanced technology fields and benefiting from South Korea’s economic development experiences. Both sides discussed several strategic shared interests.
At the beginning of the meeting, the University President warmly welcomed the Consul General and expressed appreciation for the continuous relations and cooperation. For his part, the Consul General expressed his pleasure in visiting the University of Duhok and praised its significant role.
One of the main discussion points was cooperation in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Within this framework, the Consul General formally requested the University of Duhok to participate in the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), an annual global competition for students with skills in computer vision and natural language processing. The University President welcomed this request and affirmed the university’s readiness to form a dedicated team and participate in this important scientific event.
Another part of the meeting focused on the importance of developing economic research in the Kurdistan Region. Discussions highlighted ways to benefit from South Korea’s successful experience, especially in establishing strategic research centers that laid the foundation for its economic advancement. Both parties agreed that using “brainpower” is key to developing a successful economic strategy for the Kurdistan Region, and the university can play an influential role in this process.
Dr. Atrushi emphasized the pioneering role of the University of Duhok in community service and capacity-building, stating that the university continues to work through various strategic programs to support solutions to regional challenges.
In conclusion, both sides agreed to continue coordination and open new doors for cooperation that will serve mutual interests and promote scientific and economic progress in the Kurdistan Region.
