In alignment with its strategic vision to promote academic excellence, cultural sustainability, and international collaboration, the University of Duhok (UOD) organized a series of specialized training seminars for students of the Department of Archaeology, College of Humanities. The activities were conducted within the “cultural heritage” as part of the practical implementation of the TRANSITION Project, supported by the European Union, which focuses on preserving the cultural heritage of minority communities.

Enhancing Academic Learning through Applied Training

The initiative aimed to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical engagement by encouraging students to explore tangible and intangible cultural heritage, particularly that of minority communities in the region.

Two dedicated training sessions were delivered:

• First Seminar (April 22, 2026):
  Conducted by Assistant Lecturer M. Lawrence Nadir Mikho, focusing on the heritage of minority groups, with special emphasis on the Assyrian component. The session highlighted key aspects of intangible cultural heritage, offering students critical insights into identity, traditions, and preservation challenges.
• Second Seminar (April 29, 2026):
  Delivered by Lecturer Saad Yousif Al-Qas Abdul Ahad, addressing the Syriac cultural heritage. The lecture provided in-depth perspectives on the historical and cultural significance of Syriac communities and their contributions to regional heritage.

Interactive Learning and Student Engagement

Each seminar, lasting approximately two hours, concluded with interactive discussions and open dialogue between the lecturers and students.

This initiative reflects UOD’s commitment to:

• Integrating international projects such as TRANSITION into academic curricula
• Promoting research, awareness, and community engagement
• Aligning higher education outcomes with global sustainability and cultural preservation goals
