International Scholar from Italy Shares Comparative Insights on Genocide Prevention and Coexistence in Duhok

The Center for Genocide Studies at the University of Duhok organized a specialized academic seminar on genocide prevention and peaceful coexistence, welcoming Mr. Alek Barovic, a PhD researcher in Genocide Studies at the University of Padova (Italy), on Tuesday at the American Corner, Student Center.
The seminar forms part of the University of Duhok’s ongoing commitment to international academic collaboration, peacebuilding, and advanced research in genocide and conflict studies. Mr. Barovic, who possesses extensive expertise in genocide education and prevention, visited Duhok as part of his broader comparative research on genocide and post-conflict societies.
During the seminar, Mr. Barovic emphasized the role of coexistence in preventing genocide, drawing on international case studies from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Rwanda, and the Kurdistan Region. His analysis highlighted how education, collective memory, and inclusive policies can serve as effective tools in mitigating mass violence and fostering long-term peace.
