UK, June 19, 2025, University Press Office (UNPO) | A distinguished delegation from the University of Duhok (UOD) proudly represented Iraq at two leading medical conferences in the United Kingdom, highlighting the university’s growing role in international scientific engagement and medical research.

Iraqi Medical Congress (IQMC-UK 2025)

The First Iraqi Medical Congress (IQMC 2025) was held in London on 14 June 2025 under the official patronage of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the UK. Organized by an Iraqi academic in collaboration with the Iraqi Embassy, the event brought together leading Iraqi medical and academic professionals from Iraq and the diaspora, along with representatives from international healthcare institutions.

IQMC-UK 2025:
The congress provided a vital platform for sharing expertise, building collaborations, and discussing key developments in the medical field through insightful scientific sessions and expert presentations.

Among the highlights of the event was a presentation by Dr. Shakir Saleem Balindi, a renowned urologist and faculty member at UOD, College of Medicine. His talk explored the development and challenges of kidney transplant in Iraq, linking to public well-being, and offering recommendations for advancing this important sector. Dr. Balindi also delivered an exceptional case study on a rare surgical procedure successfully performed in Duhok.

British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS 2025)

Following IQMC-UK, Dr. Shakir Balindi also participated in the 80th Annual Conference of the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS 2025), held in Manchester on June 16-18. BAUS is internationally recognized as one of the world’s most prestigious forums for advancements in urological surgery and research.

Description of BAUS 2025:
This year’s event marked the 80th anniversary of BAUS, celebrating eight decades of contributions to urological science and surgical innovation. With over 600 scientific abstracts submitted and a rich program of world-class presentations and discussions.

Dr. Balindi’s participation at BAUS 2025 further strengthened the University of Duhok role in contributing to global scientific discourse and showcased the growing academic capabilities of Iraqi medical professionals on international platforms.
