Building a Safer Campus: University of Duhok Organizes Specialized Civil Defense Training
UOD, February 19, 2026, University Press Office (UNPO) | The University of Duhok (UOD) continues to advance its strategic priorities in institutional resilience, campus safety, and sustainable risk management through targeted professional development initiatives. As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen operational preparedness, the Directorate of Health and Safety organized a specialized workshop on Emergency First Response and Incident Management on 17 February 2026 at the Cultural and Social Center.
The workshop was delivered in collaboration with the Duhok Civil Defense Directorate, reinforcing UOD’s commitment to building partnerships with public safety institutions and aligning university procedures with national emergency standards. The session was led by Colonel Bewar Abdulaziz, Head of Media at the Directorate, who provided both theoretical and hands-on training to safety coordinators representing colleges, administrative units, and university directorates.
The training addressed core response procedures for unexpected incidents and emergency scenarios, focusing on fire outbreaks, burn injuries, suffocation, falls, and evacuation protocols. Participants were introduced to internationally recognized safety practices designed to reduce risk exposure and enhance rapid response capacity within academic environments.
A practical demonstration formed the centerpiece of the workshop, where participants received hands-on instruction in fire suppression techniques, safe evacuation procedures, and the effective use of firefighting equipment.
This initiative directly supports the university’s strategic goals of digital transformation, institutional sustainability, and community responsibility, recognizing that a safe learning environment is fundamental to academic excellence, research continuity, and student well-being. By investing in structured safety training and inter-institutional collaboration, UOD continues to position itself as a regional model for modern university governance and risk-aware campus management.
