UOD Advances Digital Transformation through Specialized Electronic Library Management Workshop

As part of its strategic commitment to digital transformation, institutional modernization, and academic service development, the University of Duhok (UOD), through its Central Library, launched a specialized three-day workshop for directors of college libraries across the university. The initiative aims to strengthen administrative efficiency, standardize library operations, and enhance access to academic resources in preparation for the implementation of a new integrated electronic library system.
The workshop is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Karwan Jaafar Abdulrahman, Director of the Central Library at UOD, and is delivered by Ms. Awaz Hikmat Mohammed Ali, trainer and lecturer at the Department of Business Administration at Duhok Polytechnic University and Technical Institute of Duhok . The sessions are held daily over four hours and bring together library directors from all UOD colleges.
Supporting Smart Library Systems and Institutional Integration
The training program focuses on modernizing library administration and preparing all university libraries to operate within a unified digital environment. Key workshop themes include:
1. Unifying the Library Cataloging System
Participants received training on standardizing classification numbers and cataloging procedures across all college libraries. This step is essential for ensuring the smooth implementation of the university’s new electronic system and improving the accessibility and discoverability of books and academic materials for students, researchers, and faculty members.
2. Standardizing Library Databases and Metadata
The workshop also provided detailed guidance on organizing and formatting library databases and Excel records according to unified technical standards.
- Enhancing Automation and Reducing Administrative Workload
A major component of the training focuses on practical use of the new automated library system, which is expected to significantly reduce administrative workload and streamline daily operations. The workshop introduced:
- Automated borrowing and return procedures
- Digital tracking of borrowed materials
- Fine calculation mechanisms for overdue books
- Improved inventory management and reporting tools
These developments are designed to protect academic resources, improve operational efficiency, and deliver more effective library services to students and researchers by the upcoming academic year.
