Raising Awareness on Antibiotic Misuse through Scientific Dialogue

As part of its strategic commitment to promoting public health and applied scientific research, the Department of Biology at the University of Duhok (UOD) organized a two-day workshop titled “The Role of Microbiologists in Mitigating Antimicrobial Drug Resistance” on May 14–15, 2025.

The event was held in the College of Science seminar hall under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ali Yahya Saeed, and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Aziz Ibrahim, Dean of the College, and Dr. Bakhtyar Nader Ali, Head of the Department of Biology.

🧫 Workshop Focus
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of antibiotic misuse and the critical role microbiologists play in research, diagnostics, and community education to prevent antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Discussions included resistance mechanisms, surveillance methods, and the importance of rational antibiotic use.
