📍 UOD | May 29, 2025 — University Press Office (UNPO) | In a proud moment that underscores the University of Duhok’s strategic investment in student excellence and global engagement, Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, President of UOD, officially received representatives from the College of Science to honor a major international achievement.

The recognition comes as the UOD_ACS International Student Chapter was awarded, for the second consecutive year, the American Chemical Society (ACS) Chapter Award for its exceptional activities during the academic year 2023–2024. The chapter was commended for its outstanding contributions in promoting chemistry education, public awareness, and student leadership.

🌍 Recognition Meeting at the Presidency

In a formal ceremony held at the UOD Presidency, President Dr. Atrushi welcomed:

• Dr. Suhad Abdulrahman Yaseen , Supervisor of the UoD_ACS Chapter
• Barhav Issa Abdullah , Co-supervisor for the Chapter, College of Health Sciences
   

President Atrushi extended his congratulations to both the faculty and student members of the chapter, emphasizing that such achievements align directly with UOD’s Strategic Plan 2023–2038, which prioritizes student engagement, scientific innovation, and international visibility.

Recognition by the College of Science 

Previously, the students of the UOD_ACS International Student Chapter were honored by the Dean of the College of Science for their international  recognition.

📈 From Six Students to a Leading Chapter

Established in 2022, the UOD chapter of the American Chemical Society began with only six pioneering students. With guidance from faculty and institutional support, it quickly evolved into one of the most dynamic student science communities in the region. As reported in UOD’s official feature article, the chapter:

• Became officially recognized by the American Chemical Society in the United States
   
• Grew its membership to nearly 100 active students
   
• Organized events tied to global scientific days such as World Earth Day
   
• Conducted numerous college-level seminars and community outreach initiatives
   

🧪 A Model for Strategic and Scientific Engagement

The ACS award for 2023–2024 marks the second year in a row that the UoD chapter has been internationally recognized. This achievement highlights the University of Duhok’s growing reputation as a hub for scientific leadership and student empowerment.
