College of Engineering Celebrates the Graduation of Tomorrow’s Innovators

About the College of Engineering

University of Duhok – August 10, 2025, University Press Office (UNPO) | As one of the oldest and most prestigious academic units at the University of Duhok, the College of Engineering continues to shape the technological future of Kurdistan and Iraq. Located on the University’s Malta campus, the college offers diverse and rigorous academic programs across five departments: Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering besides Water Resources Engineering and Surveying Engineering which have recently emerged into the Department of Civil Engineering.

The College currently hosts over 1,350 undergraduate and graduate students, with instruction and research led by 140 distinguished faculty members across 22 state-of-the-art laboratories. The College has also initiated several high-impact collaborations, such as the double-degree program in Biomedical Engineering with THM University in Germany, and is actively pursuing ABET accreditation to bring international recognition to its programs.

Honoring the Class of 2025

On a bright and emotional day, the UOD held the graduation photo session of College of Engineering for the Class of 2024–2025. Faculty members, and graduates gathered to celebrate the culmination of years of dedication, challenges, and achievement.

This year’s graduates are future architects, engineers, and innovators ready to enter industries ranging from construction and power systems to biomedical technology and artificial intelligence. Their education at UOD has empowered them with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing them to drive solutions in both local and global contexts.

Students Poised to Shape the Future

Graduates from the College of Engineering are uniquely equipped for the job market and research arenas. Many of them have already benefited from internship placements, lab-based research, and collaborative projects with local companies and international institutions.

Voices of Inspiration – What Our Graduates Say

To bring the story of this class to life, we spoke to several of the graduates:

  • Sara Waadallah Nouri shared that college life is enjoyable and offers a chance to learn about different cultures and interpersonal communication. She finds the study materials practical and relevant, and hopes to develop new skills while working in her field of specialization.
  • Yousif Mohammed emphasized that college opens one’s mind to broader horizons. He advises new students to familiarize themselves with the college’s academic system early on in order to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Araz Qahir reflected on the shift in responsibility when transitioning from school to college. He values the friendships formed across different cities and encourages students to stay focused and work toward turning their dreams into reality.

Each student echoed a common theme: hope, ambition, and gratitude for the community that helped them grow.

Looking Ahead

The College is determined to expand its international partnerships, enhance its research infrastructure, and serve as a driver of innovation for Kurdistan and the region.
