The Kurdish Youth between Reality and Hopes in a Panel Discussion in the UoD

Kurdish Youth Union-Duhok in collaboration with the Universty of Duhok held a panel discussion in the UoD Student Centre in the 14th of February 2022. Titled “The Kurdish Youth between Reality and Hopes,” the panel comprised four panelists presenting four different topic including: The Role of the Organization in the Rehabilitation of youths, The Impact of the Different Political Speeches on the Youths, The Youth and Philosophy, The Youth and Economy.

In his presentation, Mayser Ubaid, the Secretory of the Kurdistan Democratic Youth Union, described the role of the organization in the development of the youths and indicated that only 35% of the organizations currently existing in Kurdistan are active in the areas of rehabilitation and development and the rest are not making any substantial contributions.

Ismet Khabour, a UoD academic, focused in his presentation on the impact of the political, social and cultural speeches on the youths. He asserted that “the Kurdish youth is not provided with the opportunity to show his different capacities and so they have not been able to make any prominent contributions.” 

Dr. Mo’yad Berekat talked about the relationship between the youths and philosophy and concentrated on the ideology of the youths: “We need to pay attention to the way the young man thinks and the different cultural and environmental ideologies imposed on him. The youth, hence, feels he is not living his reality.”

On the last presentation, Kawa Abdulaziz focused on the relationship between the youths and economy. He described the impact of economy on the youth and indicated that “most challenges faced by the youth are economical and hence, economy is the key resolution to many of their troubles.”

The panel ended with a discussion between the audience and the panelists who answered their questions and concerns regarding the topics presented.
