College of City and Regional Planning Announces Admission Open for M.Sc. in Spatial Planning Program
UoD – October 6, 2026 | University Press Office (UNPO) – The Department of Spatial Planning at the College of City and Regional Planning is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the upcoming Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Spatial Planning program.
Program Overview
This two-year, full-time postgraduate program (120 ECTS credit points / ~30 ECTS per semester) delves into the social, economic, cultural, and ecological challenges facing Spatial Planning. With a strong emphasis on sustainable development strategies at local, regional, national, and international levels, the program aims to develop professionals who can promote a rational arrangement of activities and reconcile competing policy goals.
Curriculum & Hands-on Training
Our curriculum offers a unique combination of academic modules, theoretical subjects, research methods, and interactive workshops.
- Key Focus Areas: Spatial planning approaches, theories & concepts, planning tools & techniques, socio-economic development, urban design, mobility, regional development, spatial information systems & modeling, and reconstruction policies under crisis conditions.
- Practical Workshops: Theory is put into practice through a suite of planning workshops. Students apply group facilitation, presentation, and analytical skills across the full planning cycle—from analysis and planning to implementation, monitoring, and evaluation on real-world spatial challenges.
- Language of Instruction: All course and module examinations throughout the program will be administered entirely in English.
Specializations & Available Capacity
A total of 6 dedicated spots are available for this Master's intake. While all students follow a unified general curriculum in Spatial Planning and prepare for the general Competency Test, thesis research will be conducted within one of the following specializations:
- Urban Landscape and Environmental Planning — (2 Spots)
- Housing Planning and Policy — (2 Spots)
- Land Use and Transportation Planning — (2 Spots)
Note: The competency test covers general spatial planning concepts; thesis topics will align with the assigned specialization.
Admission Requirements & Key Dates
- Tuition Fees: 5,250,000 Iraqi Dinars per academic year
- Language Requirement: English Proficiency Test
