On May 30, 2022, at the University of Duhok Cultural and Social Center, under the auspices of Dr. Dawood Sulaiman Atrushi, President of the University of Duhok, and in the presence of Dr. Lokman Hadi, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, along with several deans, doctors, professors, and specialized engineers in planning and engineering.

Our directorate (Directorate of Engineering and Projects) organized a workshop titled:
(On the Master Plan of the UoD Campus: Upgrading Existing Facilities & Suggestions for Future Extension).

The event began with a general speech by the University President. Subsequently, Eng. Haji Ismail Ahmed, Director of Engineering and Projects, provided clarifications on:

1. The establishment of the University of Duhok and the Directorate of Engineering and Projects.
2. The old Master Plan and the extent of compliance during its implementation.
3. Designs developed by private consultancy firms and UN organizations, implemented by our directorate.
4. Designs directly created and executed by the directorate.
5. The tender prepared for an enhanced Master Plan in 2014, which was not announced due to the financial crisis in the region and the ISIS conflict.

Architect Saman Fakhruddin then discussed:

1. Details of the old Master Plan, noting that approximately 60% of it was followed.
2. Remaining areas within the campus suitable for construction versus those designated for greenery and parks.
3. Drainage systems and the establishment of a water recycling station to treat wastewater for irrigation purposes.
4. Designing a green park near the Student Center, including a monument for university events.
5. Designating specific sites for use as galleries and tourism facilities.

Finally, the Director of Engineering and Projects returned to present future suggestions, including:

1. Comprehensive data collection (buildings, students, staff, vehicles, etc.) as a foundation for long-term planning.
2. Organizing future workshops focused on:
   a) Current building issues and their solutions.
   b) Establishing building codes and standards.
   c) Maintenance and organization of green spaces.
   d) Providing all necessary facilities for people with special needs (pathways, ramps, and accessible restrooms).
   e) Establishing a unique institutional identity for the university.
