About us
The Gender Equality Studies Center (GESC) is a governmental institution at the University of Duhok. It was founded in 2018 as an academic center and was later formally incorporated into the university’s organizational structure, serving as a research center directly affiliated with the presidency of the University of Duhok. The center conducts studies and research on issues related to gender equality within the Kurdistani community in an objective, scientific, and academic manner, aiming to unveil the obstacles that hinder equality and equity between men and women.

Supporting outstanding scientific research output and providing an academic and practical environment that enables researchers to achieve the objectives of the university.
Our Objectives
1. Investigating cases related to gender equality in Kurdistan by tracking and evaluating the social status of individuals, especially women, and the different roles they assume, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
2. Promoting a culture of non-violence, social cohesion, equality, and equity through activities aligned with sustainable development programs and national strategic plans, with the aim of empowering Kurdistani women across different fields, age groups, and social sectors.
3. Providing staff specialized in gender-related issues who can work across various sectors, particularly in education, economics, environment, technology, health, community development, and public services.
4.Coordinating with other public sectors to enhance capacities and ensure gender balance between men and women.
5. Strengthening cooperation with international, national, and regional academic and research centers, and facilitating the exchange of research experiences and scientific studies among researchers on gender-related topics, as well as contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals.
Center Organizational Structure
1. The Board: It is the main governing body and consists of at least seven members. Members must hold an academic rank of at least Lecturer and be specialized in gender-related issues within the fields of law, sociology, economics, medicine, or humanities.
2. Administration: It consists of five members, each holding an academic rank of at least Lecturer, and is responsible for the administrative tasks of the center. 3. The Director: The Director is the main authority and is directly responsible for the center.
3. Department of Research and Projects: This department consists of two administrative members in addition to the Director.
4. Department of Monitoring and Evaluation: This department is managed by one administrative member.
