Department of Information Security
We keep the university's internet stable, its network secure, and its data center running. From the Fiber Optic backbone and core Cisco switches to the central firewall that guards every connection, the Department of Information Security protects and powers the University of Duhok's entire digital environment.
Who we are
The Department of Information Security is the guardian of the University of Duhok's network. We manage, design, and maintain the entire university network infrastructure across all campuses and colleges, administer the central Data Center, and program the firewall systems that secure it all. When a connectivity problem is too complex for a college's local IT staff, it escalates to us — and we make sure the university's internet service stays stable, continuous, and highly available, with downtime kept to an absolute minimum.
Duties & responsibilities
Our work spans four closely connected areas of responsibility.
Internet availability & troubleshooting
Ensuring service continuity. Guaranteeing that the university's internet service is stable, continuous, and highly available, minimizing downtime as much as possible.
Advanced technical support (escalation). Resolving complex network and connectivity issues within the colleges that local IT staff are unable to fix.
Network infrastructure & administration
Full network management. Managing, designing, and maintaining the entire university network infrastructure across all campuses and colleges.
Device programming & upgrades. Configuring, programming, and updating core network devices — routers, switches, and the university's Fiber Optic backbone.
Data center management
Core appliance configuration. Administering and modifying settings for core network devices, such as the core Cisco switches hosted in the central Data Center.
System & equipment administration. Managing and maintaining central servers, switches, and dedicated infrastructure equipment, including programming changes and operational updates.
Network security & traffic control
Firewall programming. Advanced configuration, programming, and continuous management of the university's central firewall systems.
Web & content filtering. Implementing web filtering and URL blocking policies to secure the network environment.
Bandwidth allocation. Optimizing and distributing internet bandwidth across all colleges and departments for balanced resource usage.
