New Research Publication Highlights Innovative Cancer Study by UoD Scholars
The University of Duhok (UoD) is proud to announce the publication of groundbreaking research by a team of scholars from its College of Medicine. Their study, "The Emerging Role of S100A4 and S100A14 Proteins in Colorectal Cancer Progression", was recently featured in the esteemed journal Cellular and Molecular Biology.
This work exemplifies UoD's commitment to advancing knowledge and addressing critical regional and global health challenges, in line with the university’s Strategic Plan 2023-2038.
Research Focus and Impact
The study delves into the expression patterns and functional roles of S100A4 and S100A14 proteins in colorectal cancer (CRC). With CRC being the third most frequently diagnosed cancer globally, the research sheds light on the proteins’ significant contributions to tumor progression, metastasis, and the activation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). This cutting-edge investigation provides insights that could lead to the development of novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets, especially for aggressive forms of CRC.
Key Highlights
- Advanced Methodology: The research utilized immunohistochemical studies, qPCR, western blotting, and in vitro experiments on CRC tissue samples and cell lines.
- Significant Findings: High S100A4 expression was correlated with worse outcomes in CRC patients, while S100A14 knockdown promoted EMT and increased cell migration, invasion, and proliferation.
- Clinical Relevance: The study underscores the potential of S100A4 as a therapeutic target to inhibit CRC metastasis, paving the way for improved patient outcomes.
UoD’s Role in Quality Research
This publication reinforces UoD's mission to produce impactful research that aligns with the Kurdistan Accreditation Association for Education (KAAE) and global standards. It also reflects the university’s dedication to fostering innovation in medical sciences and enhancing community health.
Call for Collaboration
The University of Duhok invites international researchers, institutions, and industry leaders to collaborate in advancing cancer research. By joining forces, we can develop transformative solutions to combat pressing health challenges in the region and beyond.
