College of Law Achieves Strong International Performance at the 13th IBA ICC Moot Court Competition in The Hague

The University of Duhok (UOD) has achieved a notable academic accomplishment at the 13th International Bar Association (IBA) International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition, held in The Hague, Netherlands, from 12–19 June 2026. Representing both the University of Duhok and Iraq, the team from the College of Law demonstrated outstanding performance in one of the world's most prestigious international legal advocacy competitions.
Competing against teams from leading universities worldwide, the University of Duhok team secured the 78th position overall in the preliminary rounds, reflecting the team's strong preparation and commitment to excellence in international legal education and advocacy.
The team's written memorials received highly positive evaluations from the international judging panels. The Defense Memorial achieved an excellent score of 90/100, earning an "Excellent" evaluation, while the Government Memorial scored 71.3/100 and the Prosecution Memorial received 75/100, both earning "Good" evaluations.
The oral advocacy performances of the University of Duhok team also demonstrated strong legal reasoning and courtroom skills. The team achieved a score of 67.5/100 in the Government role, 65/100 in the Prosecution role, and 72.3/100 in the Defense role, with the defense presentation receiving the highest evaluation among the three rounds.
The University of Duhok delegation included Dr. Aveen Khalid Abdulrahman, Dean of the College of Law, and Dr. Ary Arif Abdulaziz, Director of the Legal Clinic, who supervised and coached the participating students: Hishyar Jangeer Agid, Shanaz Shaban Mohammed, and Amar Jasim Ahmed.
This achievement reflects the University of Duhok's continued commitment to the goals of its Strategic Plan (2023–2038), particularly in advancing internationalization, student excellence, experiential learning, and global academic engagement. Participation in international moot court competitions enables students to develop advanced skills in legal research, advocacy, critical thinking, and international criminal law, while strengthening the university's position as a leading institution for legal education in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
