University of Duhok Student Secures Third Place at Amedi International Marathon

Amedi, August , 2026, University Press Office (UNPO) | The University of Duhok (UOD) secured a notable achievement at the Amedi International Marathon, with UOD student Rena Barakat, a third-year student at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, winning third place in the women’s category.

The marathon was held on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, in Amedi District and was organized in coordination with the (KCCR). The University of Duhok participated through its Directorate of Sports, under the supervision of Dr. Nabaz Ibrahim Mohammed, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Dr. Falah Saadoun Omar, Director of the Directorate of Sports.

The event brought together approximately 700 participants from across the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider Middle East. A significant number of UOD students, both female and male, participated in the marathon, demonstrating their athletic abilities and representing the University in a regional sporting event.

The competition featured a 5-kilometre race for men and a 3-kilometre race for women. UOD student Rena Barakat delivered a strong performance to secure third place among the female participants, marking a notable achievement for the University and highlighting the athletic talent of its students.

The achievement reflects UOD’s commitment to student development, physical well-being, and participation in extracurricular and sporting activities, in line with the University’s Strategic Plan and its emphasis on developing well-rounded students and supporting a vibrant university community.
