As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and green campus development, the University of Duhok (UOD), through its American Corner, has successfully completed the second phase of its Model Orchard Project through a new tree-planting campaign for the College of Administration and Economics.

The initiative took place on May 25, 2026, was implemented with the generous support of Kiano Organization for Humanitarian Aid and Development, which sponsored the planting of 100 productive pear trees to further expand the college’s orchard and contribute to the university’s long-term environmental goals.

The campaign was attended by several university leaders and representatives, including:

• Dr. Nabaz Ibrahim Mohammed, Vice President of the University of Duhok for Student Affairs
• Dr. Bassam Ahmed Abdullah, Dean of the College of Administration and Economics
• Dr. Hawar Khalil Taher, Dean of the College of Political Sciences
• Dr. Zirak Yousif Hasan, Director of the American Corner at UOD
• Dr. Iman Khorsheed Saleem, Director of Kiano Organization
• Dr. Dilveen Miqdad Ahmed, Director of the Psycho-Social Counseling and Student Services Center
• Academic and administrative staff members from the participating colleges and university units

The tree-planting activity builds upon the success of the first phase of the Model Orchard Project, which was launched earlier this year as part of a broader initiative to increase green spaces, promote environmental stewardship, and create practical learning opportunities for students.

Through strategic partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders, the University of Duhok continues to advance its vision of developing a sustainable and environmentally responsible campus. The expansion of the orchard not only enhances the university landscape but also serves as a living educational resource that supports awareness of sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and environmental conservation.

This initiative reflects UOD’s dedication to integrating sustainability into campus life and strengthening collaboration with local organizations to support community-oriented environmental development.
