UoD, October 29, 2026 | University Press Office (UNPO) — The American Chemical Society International Student Chapter at the University of Duhok (UoD_ACS International Student Chapter), in collaboration with Cihan International School, organised an educational outreach event on October 27, 2026, at the College of Science, University of Duhok, to celebrate National Chemistry Week 2026 under the American Chemical Society’s theme, “Chemistry Under Construction.”

The event, attended by the Dean of the College of Science, Dr. Mohammed Aziz Ibrahem, chapter’sSupervisor, Dr. Suhad Abdulrahman, Yasin, and faculty members, aimed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and encourage students to participate in international scientific activities. Through scientific posters and educational materials, participating students explored the role of chemistry in everyday life, focusing on its contribution to the development of stronger, safer, more durable, and sustainable construction materials, including concrete, steel, and glass.

The initiative also sought to raise scientific awareness among school students, stimulate curiosity, and demonstrate how chemistry supports innovation and sustainable development. By connecting scientific concepts with real-world applications, the event highlighted the value of collaboration between universities and schools in strengthening science education and inspiring young people to explore scientific fields.

Through this outreach activity, the UoD_ACS International Student Chapter continues to promote student engagement in international scientific programmes, support science education, and encourage the next generation to connect with the global scientific community. The initiative reflects the University of Duhok’s strategic commitment to student-centred learning, academic engagement, international collaboration, and sustainable development.
