UOD – September, 2025 | University Press Office (UNPO) – The College of Law at the University of Duhok (UOD), in collaboration with the Kurdistan Center for International Law, organized an academic panel titled “Illegal Migration in the Kurdistan Region: Causes, Risks, and Solutions” under the slogan “Hope is Here, Not Abroad.”

The event was attended by Dr. Aveen Khalid Abdulrahman, Dean of the College of Law, along with government representatives, faculty members, college deans, and a large group of students.

Academic Dialogue on Migration Challenges

The panel featured four distinguished academics who addressed the social, economic, political, and legal dimensions of illegal migration:

• Dr. Zubaida Said Salih, Head of the Department of Sociology, highlighted the social pressures and lack of opportunities driving young people abroad.
  
  
• Dr. Kawa Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, economist, emphasized unemployment, low income, and lack of graduate placement as economic drivers of migration.
  
  
• Dr. Abdal Juma Abdulrahman, Political Science lecturer, examined the political and economic instability shaping migration trends.
  
  
• Dr. Saadi Yahya Saadi, expert in international law, addressed the dangers faced by migrants and the role of international migration law.
