College of Medicine Concludes Research Training Program for Fourth-Year Medical Students

The College of Medicine at the University of Duhok (UOD) successfully concluded a specialized research training program for fourth-year (Phase II) medical students, on December 14-18, 2025.
The training program was part of the Students’ Research Program and aimed to strengthen students’ research capacities and prepare them for academic and community-oriented medical practice. A large number of fourth-grade students participated and were organized into small working groups of six students each, encouraging teamwork, discussion, and practical engagement.
Academic Supervision and Lecturers
The training program was delivered through interactive lectures, discussions, and group-based activities by specialized academic staff from the College of Medicine, including Dr. Ary Habeeb Mohammed, Dr. Saad Younis, researcher Dr. Aziry Salih, and Dr. Hajmat Abdulkhaliq Ali. Their sessions provided students with both theoretical foundations and practical guidance in medical research and community-oriented studies.
Two Key Training Tracks
The training was designed around two main thematic tracks:
- Developing Research Methodology in Medical Education
This track focused on building students’ foundational research skills within the College of Medicine, covering:
- Understanding the concept and importance of medical research
- Research methodology and study design
- Literature review and problem formulation
- Data collection methods and basic statistical analysis
- Writing research proposals and publishing scientific work
- Introduction to research ethics
- Community and Patient-Oriented Research
The second track emphasized the relationship between medicine, society, and patients. It addressed:
- Effective engagement with communities
- Understanding and analyzing community phenomena affecting public health
- Ethical and professional interaction with patients
- Applying research outcomes to real-life medical and social contexts
Strengthening Research Culture at UOD
The program was delivered through interactive lectures and facilitated by specialized academic staff from the College of Medicine. This approach enhanced peer learning and active participation, reinforcing the University of Duhok’s commitment to research-based education, community engagement, and the preparation of future medical professionals.
