UOD College of Medicine Explores Cardiometabolic Health During Ramadan in CPD-Accredited Scientific Seminar

As part of its strategic commitment to advancing medical education, community health awareness, and continuous professional development, the College of Medicine at the University of Duhok (UOD), in collaboration with Ultra Medica Pharmaceutical Company, organized a high-level scientific event titled “Cardio- Metabolic Health in Ramadan.” The event was held at the UOD Convention Center with broad participation from medical professionals and students.
The event, held on January 15, 2026, under the chairmanship of Dr. Mohammed Muttar Al-Lami, Dr. Azad S. Mohammed, and Dr. Idris Haji Ahmed, was attended by Dr. Dildar Haji Musa , Dean of the College of Medicine, alongside specialized physicians and medical students, reflecting UOD’s role as a hub for evidence-based medical discourse and academic–industry collaboration. Importantly, the event was officially accredited by Continuing Professional Development (CPD), ensuring adherence to international standards of medical education and professional quality.
Evidence-Based Medical Insights for Ramadan Fasting
The scientific program addressed critical cardiometabolic challenges associated with fasting during Ramadan, with presentations grounded in current clinical research and best practices.
- Dr. Bayar Ahmed Qasim delivered a keynote lecture on diabetes management during Ramadan, emphasizing patient safety and individualized treatment strategies.
- Dr. Mousa Haji Ahmed examined the effects of fasting on patients with heart failure, highlighting risk assessment and clinical monitoring.
Expert Panel Discussion and Clinical Perspectives
A specialized panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr. Amin Mousa, with contributions from Prof. Dr. Zana Sadiq, Dr. Sipan Sarbast, Dr. Malavan Mohammed, and Dr. Brisk Haidar Rashad. The panel focused on clinical decision-making, interdisciplinary coordination, and real-world challenges faced by physicians treating fasting patients with chronic conditions.
In the concluding sessions, Dr. Suhaib Mustafa, Interventional Cardiologist, presented on hypertension management during Ramadan and the impact of fasting on patients with chronic kidney disease, followed by Dr. Lana Adel, who addressed the effects of fasting on gastrointestinal disorders.
