The College of Medicine at the University of Duhok (UOD) has taken a significant step toward enhancing international collaboration in healthcare education by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) London–Iraq Network — a national organization supported by the RCP (UK) and composed of Iraqi fellows, members, and graduates of the College.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the 5th Anniversary Conference of the RCP London–Iraq Network, held in Sulaimani on November 7–8, 2025. The conference brought together prominent Iraqi and international physicians, academics, and representatives from the Ministry of Health and leading medical universities. This agreement was signed by the Dean of the College of Medicine at the UOD, Dr. Dildar Haji Musa, and the Chair of the RCP/London-Iraq Network, Dr. Hilal Bahjat Al-Saffar.

A Strategic Step Toward International Excellence

Through this MoU, the University of Duhok aims to strengthen academic exchange, clinical research, and professional development opportunities for its faculty and students. The partnership will focus on:

  • Developing the medical workforce to improve healthcare delivery and design across Iraq.

  • Enhancing medical education and continuous professional development (CPD) through collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians for accreditation and training.

  • Facilitating international research and knowledge exchange, particularly in evidence-based medicine and healthcare innovation.

  • Creating opportunities for young physicians to join the RCP’s Medical Training Initiative (MTI), opening pathways to global training and leadership development.

Shared Vision for a Healthier Future

Founded in 2021 under the leadership of Dr. Hilal Al-Saffar, the RCP London–Iraq Network works to improve healthcare in Iraq through education, service provision, and advocacy. Its mission aligns closely with UOD’s strategic vision to empower future leaders in medicine, modernize medical curricula, and promote scientific research at the national and international levels.

The collaboration also demonstrates UOD’s broader commitment to raising healthcare standards, empowering young researchers, and fostering global academic partnerships that benefit the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole.
